The Greater Toronto Skating Academy (GTSA) will be operating this summer at the fabulous Scotiabank Pond (Formerly known as Buckingham Arena). ScotiaBank Pond is located within Downsview Park, a stunning urban centre that provides a host of featured amenities including a 300 acre nature reserve and of course spotlighted by 4 amazing state-of-the-art NHL ice arenas with large heated spectator stands.
The complex also provides an adjacent fully-licensed restaurant “The Penalty Box” accessible via the spectacular lobby. Other fantastic conveniences include a fully equipped pro shop with skate sharpening, private “pro like” dressing rooms that come with individual showers and washrooms, a snack bar and a variety of food and beverage options in the vending centre.
GTSA is proudly housed alongside the innovative FITS. This is not your typical gym, sports medicine clinic, or training facility. FITS is the first of it’s kind in Canada where Sport Science integrates expertise in sports medicine, athletic development, nutrition, rest and recovery, neurophysiological development, the Long Term Athletic Development model, motor skill acquisition and sport performance.
Also right on GTSA’s doorsteps is Heads Up. This comprehensive training academy is focused on developing and supporting all aspects of an athlete’s mental game. They offer customized training programs, mental game coaching, consultation, education, workshops and a sports vision training program. Heads Up strives to improve each athlete’s mental toughness, mental awareness and overall performance. This allows athletes to learn to take their game to the next level, through the teaching of proven sports psychology skills and strategies, along with enhanced visual, cognitive & motor skills.
ScotiaBank Pond is the proud home of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, the largest minor hockey organization in North America and hosts numerous other leagues and prestigious events each year.
The exciting Downsview Park Sports Centre is considered to be one of the leading centres of athletic performance excellence anywhere in the Greater Toronto Area. It offers diverse and fun activities for people of all walks of life, including many traditional and recreational activities. Enjoy squash, soccer, go-karting, volleyball, basketball, rock climbing, and now figure skating! And that’s just to name a few of the great family activities!
